Foinikas Beach

Sheltered from the northerly winds, Foinikas Beach is the second natural port of Syros after the Port of Hermoupolis and has an organized marina next to it with all the facilities to welcome yachts and boats of any kind.
Foinikas Beach is a joy to lovers of underwater fishing as it is an excellent fishing ground. Your visit is worth to complete with a meal in one of the taverns situated literally on the beach.


Distances from other villages

Foinikas is a village located 11 km from the port of Syros. Its name derives from the Phoenicians who were its first inhabitants. The village has about 750 inhabitants engaged in agriculture, fishing and tourism.
Along the coastal road in Foinikas you will find many taverns and cafes. At the center of the village there are tourist shops, 4 super markets, a gas station, pharmacy, as well as commercial clothing.
Foinikas can be reached via public transportation buses, car, taxi or private boat.  
You can find a lot of sandy beaches in the area such as Sousouni and Kokkina beach.
Around the last week of August, the traditional feast Kakavia takes place and finally, a local feast is held on the 27th of July, at the church of Agios Panteleimonas.


Transportation

Syros island is located in the heart of the Cyclades and the short distance from Athens enables all travelers to go to the island in whatever way serves them best, either by air or by boat.
Syros is the ideal destination for long vacations, short breaks or island hopping plus it is connected to Athens with daily ferries and with other Islands on a regular basis.
The cruise is also an option for a short visit, as more and more cruise ships anchor at the port of Syros.
Yachting enthusiasts can sail to the island of Syros and anchor their yachts in the port of Ermoupolis or one of the marinas and smaller ports of the island.

Local Buses

The local bus service covers most of the island especially during the summer months. The local buses connect Ermoupoli with Galissas, Finikas, Posidonia, Megas Gialos, Vari, Azolimnos, Kini, Anno Mana, Chroussa, Parakopi and Vissa while municipal buses are also available, free of charge.
